When I first became pregnant I was thrilled! We had been trying for almost 9 months and I had considered seeing a doctor to see if something was wrong. However, we were finally blessed with a little girl and once all the excitement and telling all the family was over the reality of us becoming a family of three had started to set in. Even though we had planned for so many months there truly is nothing that can prepare you for the financial burden of a baby.
Once I had saved a little bit of money and knew we were able to get by while I was on my maternity leave I decided to look into other options of how to make money from home. The problem with my maternity leave is that I am self employed so I would not be receiving any help with my leave financially. Plus with my baby being a Christmas baby my husband would have less hours on those checks do to all the vacation time off. I decided to find another option so we wouldn’t be so tight financially. I searched for hours and signed up for all the useless gigs that promised to help me with as little work as possible. I quickly realized there would be no easy answer. I decided to take a shot at my blog that I had given up on over a year prier. My reason for trying this out again was that I truly wanted people to hear my story. I wanted to connect with others and see what it would be like to be part of an honest community. We all have Facebook and Instagram, but most of the time we only share the good times on there. My social media pages are used for my business as a hairstylist so I hold back on a lot of what I truly want to say, but with a blog I feel like I can be completely free.
When I first started my blog I had no CLUE what I was doing. I was on Pinterest for hours trying to figure everything out and eventually discovered some amazing things that I am excited to finally share with you all.
First thing is I quickly discovered that the original hosting site I was using years ago has been known to have many downfalls. So, what was a good hosting site? And honestly what is a hosting site??? A hosting site is where everything lives from your blog. This means it is very important to have a good hosting site so that everything in your blog goes smoothly. Your hosting site needs to be able to back up your blog and have your blog running smooth. With my old hosting site my blog was always going offline and the customer service with them was awful.
Now onto the good news! My new hosting site that I absolutely love!!! This site is called
siteground. This hosting site has everything your site needs and makes the process easy and comprehensible. The best part is that they have a great deal going on right now.
The StartUp plan is what I chose first. Then the site will walk you through how to pic a domain name and the last step is to pay. For an entire year you pay less than $100. When I first started I used the theme that they provide for you and was very pleased. Later on once I had more profits I decided to upgrade, but you can wait a while before doing that.
Now that you have a name for your blog and a theme you just need to start adding posts. I started with writing about things I loved and over time I would look to see if those things I loved had affiliate programs. Almost anything now has affiliate programs that will pay you for writing about how much you love them. Every time you see someone on Instagram promoting something like skinny tea or their favorite makeup than they most likely are wanting you to use an affiliate link and they will be given a small percentage of the money you spend on that product for the promotion. That’s how I started making money through my blog.
I have been doing it for only a few month and already have made $1000. Now I’m starting to expand my blog and I’m hoping with this post I can help at least one more mom or even a dad who just wants some extra money while devoting their time to their little one!
